What's in a Name?

I feel like a personal blog that has a name like mine needs some explaining. Some innocent soul is going to come looking for a fascinating new food blog and is going to find...this.

I had grandiose plans for the name of this blog, but they all fell through. I have a prevailing belief that names are tremendously important, and also intimately connected to the intrinsic nature of the named person or object. This belief is the reason I insist on naming all our family's pets and will never be able to call my future babies Tyler or Nicki. Long story, don't ask. A name has to fit, you see, it has to mean something. Anyway, you know that annoying comeback, "You want some cheese to go with that whine?"

Yeah.  Couple of reasons why this fits.

-I am 50% Dutch. The derogatory Indonesian slang for a Dutch person is kaaskop, or Dutch for "cheese-head."  Whether this referred to prevalent Dutch blondness or their well-known affinity for cheese is anybody's guess.

-I am a bit of an amateur foodie. And I love good cheese, for that matter.

-I do whine. A lot. Sorry. Since I am a properly Post-Modern young adult I shall blame genetics and my parents. Wheeee!

-I am secretly (or not so secretly) tremendously sentimental. I am recovering from this condition day by day, but I still cry watching videos about animal shelter rescues and collect illustrated fairy tales. My inner sap and inner cynic have epic and intense battles on a regular basis.

-The name entered my head and stuck. Period. Nothing to be done but sign up to Blogger! Tally-ho!

Benediction

An endeavor begun without God will never go right.

So, Lord, if You see fit, bring words to these hands of mine, and let it be that You are a part of all my thoughts.

In the Name of Your Son, Amen.

Oh Lawsy

I just made a blog.

Tentatively about me.

This might be the most egotistical thing I've ever done.

Is it?

Yes, yes it is.

Shoot.
